CELSS regularly runs training courses to help students and faculty get to grips with the primary pieces of software used to run laboratory and online experiments (zTree, oTree, Qualtrics, Matlab PTB). Click on each name to open the dedicated page with useful links and resources.

Qualtrics offers a simple interface to create online surveys. It is often used with Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) to distribute surveys or simple tasks (non interactive) over a large number of potential participants.

zTree is a widely used software package for developing and carrying out economic experiments in the lab. It allows the simple programming of normal form games, extensive form games, double auctions, clock auctions, etc.

oTree is a Python-based platform used for online tasks. It can be used for behavioral experiments (also for the laboratory), multiplayer strategy games, survey, and quizzes, especially those that require customized or dynamic functionality

The Psychophysics Toolbox (PTB) is a free set of Matlab functions for neuroscience research, also used for individual and interactive experiments. It makes it easy to synthesize and show accurately controlled visual and auditory stimuli and interact with the observer
